Student Stories

We believe every child deserves the chance to discover and develop their musical talent. On this page, you’ll meet the kinds of students we’re passionate about supporting—bright, motivated kids who show real promise in and dedication to music. Their stories highlight the young musicians we aim to empower through the resources that can turn natural ability into lasting confidence, creativity, and opportunity. Thank you for investing in the next generation of musicians in Maine.

Peter (Topsham, 12)

Music is a huge part of Peter's life, and at 12 years old, he is already playing advanced piano repertoire with mature emotion, putting his heart and soul into his music. He accompanies his school choir concerts, plays at church, and is also active in his school band, playing the tuba and trombone. He's also quite the unicyclist!

Speaking about the piano, Peter says: "Playing the piano has made a really awesome difference in my life. Whenever I’ve had a stressful day at school or just feel overwhelmed, sitting down at the keys completely calms me down and helps me clear my head. It’s also given me a chance to connect with new people, whether it’s sharing songs with friends, talking to other musicians, or performing for people I wouldn't have met otherwise. More than anything, it’s just something I truly enjoy doing. Figuring out a difficult song and finally nailing it is the best feeling, and it always puts me in a great mood."

Peter competes in the 2025 biennial Pine Tree Music Competition in Bethel, Maine, where he took 2nd place in his division.

Prince (Brunswick, 11)

Prince has music in his bones!

While many musicians focus on mastering their instruments or perfecting their singing voice, Prince is equally passionate about the theory side of music — understanding the “whys” and the fundamental building blocks that bring a piece to life.  He has a remarkable natural talent for melody. Whether he’s crafting a fun, snappy tune that makes your toes tap instantly, or a tender, sentimental piece that tugs at the heartstrings and brings a tear to your eye, his music leaves a lasting impression. Check out one of his own original compositions below!

Prince says: "Piano really means a lot to me. It makes me happy when I play songs and I can make people happy when I play. I also make my own songs, which makes me feel good by the fact that I am capable of creating songs. For me, piano is joy."
